Cha Du-Ri welcomes Freddie Ljungberg to Celtic on trial

Freddie Ljungberg has arrived in Glasgow
Ljungberg is hoping to impress Celtic manager Neil Lennon

Cha Du-Ri admits he is an admirer of Freddie Ljungberg's underwear as well as his football talent and hopes the winger can help Celtic to the title.

The 33-year-old former Arsenal and West Ham player, who famously modelled Calvin Klein briefs, has arrived in Glasgow for a trial at Celtic Park.

And full-back Cha said: "Freddie Ljungberg is a very famous player and I like his underwear.

"Seriously, he's a good player and I think he can help us. It's great."

Cha, who scored his first goal for Celtic in the first minute of injury time against St Johnstone on Sunday before South Korea team mate Ki Sung-yueng clinched the points with the second, joked: "I have a lot of Calvin Klein underwear at home. Maybe I'll show him."

Ljungberg, who left West Ham in 2008, joined Chicago Fire from Seattle Sounders in July.

But the Swede's contract ends on 1 January and he has been quoted as saying that he is keen to make his debut 24 hours later in the Old Firm derby against Rangers.

He will know all about Celtic from his former international team-mate, Henrik Larsson, who had a successful spell with the club, and present assistant manager Johan Mjallby.

And Ljungberg's experience could be vital for Celtic as they will have to do without both of Sunday's goalscorers while attempting to leapfrog the leaders and defending champions, who have a two-point lead and a game in hand over their Glasgow rivals.

Cha and Ki fly out on Monday with the South Korea squad and will be on international duty in Qatar for much of January.

"I hope Celtic can be top of the league for me and Ki coming back from the Asian Cup," said Cha.

"We have a lot of players both in my position and Ki's position, so I'm not worried. I'm sure they can play well without us."

While keen to have a look at Ljungberg, Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hoping a player already at the club will make his mark in the forthcoming weeks.

Former Juventus and Wigan midfielder Olivier Kapo has struggled with injury since signing in November but made his debut as a second-half substitute against the Perth men.

"We have him on a short-term contract, but he has been injured," said Lennon.

"He went away to France with the injury and came back and has worked very hard and looked sharp in training and we thought it might be an opportunity to give him some game time.

"You never know, we might have unearthed a player.

"He is here until the end of January and we will see how he goes in the next three or four weeks."
