Ljungberg has spent the last two season in the US with Seattle and Chicago

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that former Arsenal and Sweden midfielder Freddie Ljungberg will undergo a trial this week.

Ljungberg, who has spent the last 18 months playing in the USA with Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire arrives in Glasgow on Sunday night.

"He's coming in and he'll have a look at us," said Lennon. "We think he's got great calibre.

"He's been a world-class player for a long time."

Ljungberg left West Ham in 2008 after an agreement was reached to terminate his contract.

The Swede, 33, had considered retiring from football before agreeing a lucrative deal with Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders that ended with a switch to Chicago Fire in July.

Lennon believes Ljungberg could introduce an element of experience to his Celtic side, especially since South Korean duo Ki Sung-Yeung and Ch Du-Ri will be absent for several weeks at the Asian Cup.

"Freddie had injury problems at West Ham, but he's played over 50 games in the last 18 months in America," said Lennon.

"His agent contacted us, and we like the idea of it - because he's got a bit of experience.

"He's got the quality, so he's coming in for a couple of days and if we like each other, we might be able to get a deal done.

"It's a bit of personality, and a bit of character - but, above all that, he'll bring a bit of quality as well."
