Marc-Antoine Fortune targets more Celtic goals

Celtic striker Marc-Antoine Fortune is confident he can grab more goals next season now he is more familiar with the game in Scotland's top flight.

The 29-year-old netted 12 times during his debut term, which saw Celtic go without a trophy.

"The first target is the title for the team and, personally, I know I have to score more goals," said Fortune.

"I didn't know anything about Scottish football when I arrived. Now I know you have to fight in every game."

Fortune arrived at Parkhead 12 months ago, with Celtic paying Nancy £3.8m for the French Guiana-born forward.

But Celtic finished runners-up to rivals Rangers in the championship race and suffered defeats from Hearts and First Division Ross County in the domestic cup competitions.

"Last year was a difficult year, so this year will be the year of Celtic," said Fortune.

"I know about the teams we are playing against and I'm more confident.

"Now I'm ready to fight. That doesn't mean I wasn't ready before but I know more and I'm ready for it."

Assistant manager Johan Mjallby revealed that boss Neil Lennon still harbours hopes of persuading Robbie Keane to return to the club after his six-month loan spell last season.

And Fortune would be delighted to link up with the Republic of Ireland striker again.

"Robbie is a top player and I really enjoyed playing with him," he said. "We did well together.

"It's not one player who decides a season, it's the group.

"But good players can only be good for Celtic."

Lennon has been linked with a host of players over the summer, including a number of forwards, but Fortune is not worried.

"My personality is relaxed, so I do not stress, and competition is good for a team," was his reply when asked about the prospect of other forwards arriving before the new season.
