Italian side Atalanta have ruled out signing midfielder Massimo Donati from Celtic in the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Celtic after failing to earn a regular starting place.
Donati admitted he would welcome a return to Atalanta, where he began his career and was on loan before joining Celtic from AC Milan in 2007.
"I can exclude Donati's arrival," Atalanta coach Luigi Del Neri told Italian television channel Mediaset.
Donati has featured only seven times this season for Celtic and last played in November's 2-1 win over Hamilton in the league.
He added to Gordon Strachan's lengthy injury list after breaking a toe in training in November.
Del Neri added: "In 2007 he decided to go to Celtic and now he must respect our decision.
"We will sign a new midfielder but not Donati."
