Celtic eye West Brom's Robinson

West Brom defender Paul Robinson
Robinson has been targeted fill Celtic's problem left-back position

Celtic are believed to be in talks with West Bromwich Albion about luring their defender Paul Robinson to Parkhead.

Boss Gordon Strachan has identified the 29-year-old as the solution to his problem left-back position, with Lee Naylor looking to return to England.

Robinson enters the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns and is frustrated at the lack of a new deal.

Wigan tried to sign the player in a 1.5m transfer last year but the move collapsed after he failed a medical.

Robinson went on to play a vital role in helping Tony Mowbray's side win the Championship, and was even named in the team of the year for that division.

Celtic could snap up the full-back at a lower price if he fails to agree a contract extension with the Premiership newcomers.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

Robinson, who started his career at Watford, has earned a reputation as a versatile, no-nonsense defender able to slot into a number of positions at the back.

Current first-choice left-back Naylor enjoyed an impressive debut season at Celtic Park after joining from Wolves in August 2006 for 600,000.

But his form dipped last term and Strachan is thought to be ready to offload the 28-year-old.
