Out-of-favour Tottenham defender Dean Richards claims Celtic are interested in signing him. The 30-year-old has not played first-team football this season, and recently had tests for a brain tumour after complaining of dizzy spells.
"I've spoken to Southampton and turned them down, and I spoke to Wolves before Glenn Hoddle arrived," he told the Scottish Daily Mail.
"Celtic have offered me a chance but I'd like to stay in the Premiership."
However, Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell was quick to distance the club from a move for Richards.
"We were approached by the club and his agent but we refused to take it any further," said Lawwell. "We didn't make any approach and I was surprised to see that this morning."
Richards, a former Wolves player, played under Hoddle at Southampton before following him to White Hart Lane in September 2001 for 8.1m, scoring on his debut.
But in recent years, the former England U21 player's career has been blighted by illness and injury.
