O'Neill is Celtic top priority
Martin O'Neill has less than a year to run on his Celtic contract
Martin O'Neill has worked wonders with Celtic
Celtic's major shareholder Dermot Desmond has confirmed tying down manager Martin O'Neill to a long-term contract remains high on the club's priority list.

O'Neill has less than a year left on his current deal, a fact that caused concern among the Parkhead faithful when Leeds United were looking for a replacement for David O'Leary.

After a prolonged period of intense speculation the Yorkshire club appointed Terry Venables instead.

Desmond insisted he had been unperturbed by the speculation, remaining convinced the manager was fully committed to Celtic.

"We talk continuously about various things and when the time is right, then we will sit down and discuss his contract," Desmond told Celtic View.

"He is a tremendous asset and he has proved just a what a great commodity he is to the club over the last two seasons.

"There is a tremendous bond between Martin and the board and everyone is delighted with the success that he has enjoyed."

O'Neill worked wonders in his first season in Scotland, clinching the domestic Treble and last term won the SPL at a canter, although Celtic lost out to rivals Rangers in both cup competitions.
