Gillespie made his United debut against Norwich in May 2010
Carlisle United have handed goalkeeper Mark Gillespie a one-year contract extension that ties him to the club until the summer of 2012.
The 18-year-old impressed during a loan spell with Blue Square Bet North side Blyth this season, having made his United debut last term.
"Mark has really developed and grown," boss Greg Abbott told the club website.
"The loan spell at Blyth was fantastic for him and we are definitely seeing and hearing the right things."
Abbott continued: "What we're aiming for now is that next season he will be pushing Adam [Collin] all the way.
"The key is that you only make these signings if you feel that players have a chance of making your first team, and we feel that Mark is giving himself every opportunity at the moment."
