Abbott's side picked up their first win in four games against the Gills

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott says his sending off was the turning point in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Gillingham in League One.

Abbott was sent to the stands after reacting angrily to what he felt was an elbow on defender Ian Harte, from Gillingham striker Rene Howe

"I was happy to do it, just to get the crowd going," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria after the match.

"Everybody united and got together, the fans did it, the players did it."

The club are now waiting to hear whether there will be any further punishment.
