Dobie netted Carlisle's first goal of the season in the defeat of Oldham
Carlisle assistant manager Dennis Booth believes their performance in the 1-0 win against Oldham in the League Cup can bring optimism to the squad.
The Cumbrians bounced back from Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Brentford with a win in the cup and Booth praised the players' response.
"We've looked more solid as an outfit," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"Once we got over a period of nervousness we played very well but we'd like to convert more chances."
Defeat at home to Brentford put pressure on the club's players and management, and Booth stressed the importance of bouncing back immediately.
"After Saturday's result you have to get winning, it's the cup and we want to go as far as we can in the cup," he added.
"It's important that we got a result tonight for the players confidence, we started very nervous again and we said to the players they had to be braver with their play.
"There was a great finish from Scott Dobie, and the win was deserved."
Manager Greg Abbott has made no secret of his intentions to bring in a new striker, particularly given the departure of Danny Graham to Watford earlier this summer.
However the goal from Scott Dobie, his and the club's first goal of the season, gives Abbott an option within his squad, and Booth admitted the Workington-born striker deserved his chance.
"It's nice when your strikers score the goals," he said.
"We know his work-rate, he kept getting in the box and he got his rewards at the end with the header."
