Carlisle midfielder Ged Dalton will miss the start of the season after damaging his knee during training. The 17-year-old will have an operation on Wednesday that could leave him sidelined for up to eight weeks.
"It's disappointing for him not being involved from the start, but we've got lots of patience," Blues boss Neil McDonald told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"It gives us a chance to work on his physical side, making sure he's strong and fit when he gets back."
Dalton, who signed from Scarborough in July, agreed a two year contract that will keep him at the club until 2009.
