Cardiff boss Jones plays down Craig Bellamy absence
Boss Dave Jones says Cardiff lacked "fight" in defeat to Peterborough
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones says Craig Bellamy's presence would have made no difference to the outcome of their 2-1 Carling Cup defeat at Peterborough.
The League One side stunned last season's losing Championship play-off finalists in Tuesday's second round.
Bellamy was omitted after his debut in the 4-0 win over Doncaster on Saturday.
Jones said: "It wouldn't matter whether we had Craig or not because too many people... decided that they didn't want to work and earn their corn."
Cardiff led at half-time at London Road thanks to Jay Bothroyd's fifth goal in as many games.
But the Posh struck back through Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd.
Jones said the hosts deserved victory, but insisted Bellamy - on loan for a season from Premier League side Manchester City - could not have been a saviour on the night.
"I thought we'd won without him before anyway. That's going to be thrown at us, but we beat Derby away, we beat Burton Albion," Jones said.
"That's something we've just got to live with, but if people think we're a one-man show then they're far from it because too many turned off [against Peterborough].
"But they'll be told and they'll be shown and they won't get off with it."
Jones says the Bluebirds slacked off after an impressive opening period, adding: "Our goalkeeper Tom Heaton made a couple of excellent saves very early in the second half, but we failed to heed the warning.
"We lost our shape in the middle of the park and other players failed to step up to the plate after [midfielder] Seyi Olofinjana went off.
"Not only that, we lacked fight in key areas of the pitch. It doesn't matter how much ability you have in the ranks if you stop putting the hard work in.
"And unfortunately that is the area in which we fell short."
