Cardiff's Dave Jones excuses 'foolish' Michael Chopra
Striker Michael Chopra is Cardiff City's 4m record-signing
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones says that Michael Chopra was wrong to threaten to quit the debt-ridden club.
Jones believes that the striker remains committed to Cardiff but understands Chopra venting his frustration at the current transfer embargo.
Cardiff can only bring in players on loan as the club has so far failed to lodge year-end accounts for May 2009.
"A bit foolish on his part - he thought he was helping out, but in the wrong way," Jones said.
"Chops is committed... but he's hurting like everybody else and he thought by saying what he was saying was doing the right thing, but basically it was the wrong thing."
Jones said that Chopra's good display in Saturday's 2-1 pre-season loss at Notts County shows that he still remains committed to the Bluebirds.
While Jones admits that it is a difficult situation to operate under, he says that he is working hard to bring in loan players as the new Championship season looms.
We've kept the bulk of what was here, the players we wanted
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones
"We've got players that we're trying to bring in, we're working hard at it," Jones added.
"It's difficult when you're trying to loan players because everybody will try and sell them first, so nothing different to every year that I've been at this football club.
"Sometimes you've got to bide your time. But... I think we've lost eight or nine players this year and there's only one we've tried to keep hold of, which was Joe [Ledley].
"We've kept the bulk of what was here, the players we wanted and now we've got to try and build on that.
"Unfortunately because of the circumstances it's taking longer than what some people want, including me."
