Ross McCormack was a 110,000 signing from Motherwell in 2008
Ross McCormack insists he is happy at Cardiff City and has distanced himself from a report accusing the club of pricing him out of a top-flight move.
The Scotland striker is apparently angry at quotes attributed to him in the Hull Daily Mail saying he is being priced out of a Premier League switch.
"Everyone seems to think that I don't care about Cardiff and I want to leave, but that's not the case," he said.
"I'm happy and want to stay... I'm not planning to go anywhere."
The 22-year-old impressed in his debut season in English football, as his 23 goals helped Cardiff to the verge of the Championship play-offs.
McCormack signed a new four-year contract at the Bluebirds last month but that has failed to end speculation surrounding his future at the south Wales club.
He admitted this summer that he was keen on a move to Scottish giants Celtic, while Premier League club Portsmouth made an unofficial enquiry.
McCormack was told by Cardiff that, despite being their top-scorer last season, he will not be guaranteed a regular first-team place as manager Dave Jones has Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd also battling to play up-front.
McCormack has also been heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Hull City, who have struggled to attract strikers this summer.
Michael Owen, Bobby Zamora and Daryl Murphy have all rejected the chance to join Phil Brown's men.
McCormack was quoted as saying in the Hull Daily Mail: "I'd probably say £5m is an over-valuation for someone who has had one season in England and done well. I joined for about £100,000, so it's a lot of money.
"I think it's pricing people out of the market, but if a club wants someone enough, they'll pay it. I would definitely be interested. Hull are in the Premier League.
"When you're a young boy all you want to do is play in the Premier League, so if a club wants to give you that chance then it would be hard to turn down.
"My agent said there had been interest from Hull but neither the [Cardiff] chairman [Peter Ridsdale] nor the manager have said anything.
"As far as I'm concerned nobody has come in for me, unless Cardiff are holding things back. If a team did come in for me then I would have to make a quick decision."
But in a bizarre twist McCormack, who has been named in the Scotland squad to play Norway on 12 August, has reacted to his apparent criticism of his club by issuing a statement through Cardiff's press office.
"I don't know where the quotes have been dug up from," the statement read.
"I'm happy here, so is my fiancee, and we're looking for a new house.
"The fans here have been brilliant and it's killing me that they are reacting as if I want to leave as soon as I can.
"I'm upset at these reports, but everyone knows the situation.
"I had a conversation with the chairman and said that if a Premier club came in for me, I'd like the chance to speak to them.
"There was no transfer request. It's true that I haven't started as many games as I would have liked pre-season, but I won't run away.
"Even the biggest stars aren't guaranteed to start every match. Players like Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez are never guaranteed to start, so I can't complain.
"People are talking about a £5m fee for me and at my age that could turn my head. But all I can say is that it's very flattering."
The former Rangers trainee joined Cardiff from Scottish side Motherwell in the summer of 2008 for a cut-price £110,000.
