Ross McCormack has won three caps for Scotland

Cardiff City's top scorer Ross McCormack has ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year contract at the club.

The Scotland international, 22, joined last season for just £110,000 from Motherwell and scored 23 times, attracting Premier League interest.

"I'm really pleased to have sorted things out," said £6m-rated McCormack.

"I enjoyed last season and like the other lads want the opportunity to go that step further this year."

He added: "Some people may think that this deal is just a means for the club to get more money for me by inserting a sell-on clause.

"But my intention to sign a new deal was to do my part in all of us moving forward.

"I didn't want a sell-on clause inserted and there 100 per cent isn't one in place.

"I'm delighted to sign a new deal with Cardiff and I want to take this club where they belong - to the Premier League."

Former Rangers and Motherwell striker McCormack has publicly stated his desire to play in English football's top flight saying he would "like to give the Premier League a chance".

He also admitted he would be tempted by a move to Scottish Premier League giants Celtic.

And following the disappointment of missing out on last season's Championship play-offs, speculation mounted over McCormack's future with the Bluebirds.

Team-mate Roger Johnson secured a move to the Premier League after joining Birmingham City last week.
