Jones wants point to ease nerves

Manager Dave Jones hopes Cardiff can seal their play-off place against Roy Keane's Ipswich Town, so that his players can relax.

The Bluebirds need a point from their last league game at Ninian Park but lost 6-0 to Preston last week before being held 2-2 by relegated Charlton.

"We've just got to go and be properly prepared for the game and try and get maximum points," said Jones.

"If we don't, then it makes it more nervy."

Cardiff's slim automatic promotion hopes will end if second-place Birmingham pick up a point at home to Preston.

That means the focus will be securing a play-off berth.

But if Cardiff were to lose their final two games, Swansea and Preston, who are outside the top six, can still catch them and it would then go down to goal difference, providing either side win both their games.

"We need a point for the play-offs to make it definite and maybe if we get that, everybody can relax and get on with preparing for the play-off spot," said Jones.

"We go into Saturday's game full of confidence where if we had lost the game [at Charlton], then it adds a little bit of tension to it.

"It's not about enjoying it, it's about being relaxed and playing your normal game and not being frightened to pass the ball."

Jones said the arrival of manager Roy Keane at Ipswich will not have an impact of his team's preparations, nor will the fact it is the last league game at Ninian Park.

And he admits it is not a ground he will miss.

"I think it's time for a change, it's time for a new stadium," said Jones.

"You have to remember I don't have the feelings and affinity with the football stadium as what fans who have been going year in year out.

"I feel a new stadium is a must for the club to progress."
