Jones and Ridsdale are desperate to sign a striker in this transfer window
Peter Ridsdale admits he is in talks with three different clubs as Cardiff City bid to sign a striker permanently before the transfer window closes.
But the Bluebirds chairman would not comment if they are trying to re-sign Sunderland striker Michael Chopra.
Cardiff are also linked with young Manchester City forward Ched Evans and Hibernian frontman Stephen Fletcher.
Ridsdale said: "We are in talks with three different clubs about signing a striker before Monday's deadline."
Premier League promotion-chasers Cardiff, currently fourth in the Championship, confirmed Ghana international Quincy Owusu-Abeyie as their second January transfer window signing on Saturday.
The former Arsenal attacker signed on loan at Ninian Park for the rest of the season from Russian side Spartak Moscow.
The 22-year-old, who Cardiff have an option to sign permanently in the summer, joined free signing Chris Burke from Rangers in South Wales during this window.
But boss Dave Jones is desperate to bolster his striking reinforcements with a Premier League forward as Cardiff look to realise their top-flight dream.
"We are looking to get one more player in," confirmed Jones.
"We have to bring in as good or better than what we already have and that means looking in a higher division.
"But we've got to wait for clubs to decide which players they want to let go."
Chopra, a former Newcastle United trainee, was a fans' favourite at Cardiff during a successful 22-goal season in 2006/07 before signing for Sunderland in a £5m deal in the summer of 2007.
But the 25-year-old returned to Ninian Park in November on a two-month loan spell and Ridsdale then spoke of his desire to re-sign the former England under-21 international permanently.
However, when Ricky Sbragia replaced Roy Keane as Sunderland manager he recalled Chopra. Cardiff, though, always remained hopeful of getting Chopra back.
Cardiff have until 1700 GMT on Monday when the January transfer window closes to complete the deal.
"If it happens, then fantastic," said Jones. "If not, we'll just get on with it."
