Cardiff boss Dave Jones says captain Darren Purse will not be leaving the club unless a replacement is found.

The 31-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, has not played for almost two months and has been linked with moves to Leeds and Charlton.

"Darren knows the situation that we wont be letting any players out until we've got replacements," Jones said.

Jones confirmed they have had enquiries for Purse, but the centre-back provides experienced cover in the squad.

Purse last played for Cardiff in their 2-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle on 22 November after which Jones criticised his side's defensive display.

The player has said he wants to be playing first-team football but since his last outing the Championship play-off hopefuls are unbeaten.

Roger Johnson and summer signing Gabor Gyepes have formed a promising central defensive partnership, leaving Purse without a place in the side and Jones looking for other players.

Jones confirmed: "We have had enquiries about Darren Purse.

"But Darren knows that situation and Darren is happy with that situation.

"He is still fighting for a contract here which is fine. He knows I am looking around for other players, he has been informed of that."

Purse was one of Jones' first signings as Bluebirds boss in 2005 as he joined from West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth an estimated £1m.

He was instantly appointed team captain and earned a new two-year deal in 2007.
