Purse hits back at Cardiff boss

Cardiff captain Darren Purse is unhappy with manager Dave Jones for publicly singling out his mistake that led to a Birmingham goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss.

Jones was quoted as saying that Purse "fell asleep" for James McFadden's goal for Birmingham after just five minutes.

"When things are said in the dressing room they should stay in the dressing room," Purse said.

"If people hold their hands up I don't think it needs to be emblazoned over the papers on a Sunday morning."

Scotland forward McFadden was not tracked as he ran into the Cardiff penalty area on Saturday and struck Quincy Owusu-Abeyie's cross into the net without a challenge being made.

"For most goals there's four or five things that go wrong, it's not just one," Purse added.

"Little lapses that come out, they need to be kept in-house amongst the players and management staff and hopefully we can address them together instead of involving other people.

"Things are better dealt with in-house, it's as simple as that."

Purse has been a regular feature in the centre of Cardiff's defence this season, renewing his partnership with Roger Johnson following Glenn Loovens' sale to Celtic.

But the 31-year-old, who is out of contract with the Bluebirds next July, admitted that he now fears for his place following his manager's public criticism.

Jones could opt to partner Hungarian international defender Gabor Gyepes with Johnson for Tuesday night's home Championship clash with Coventry.

Asked whether he was enjoying his run in the Cardiff starting XI, Purse replied: "Yes, but for how long I don't know, we'll soon find out.

"I love pulling on the shirt of Cardiff City and walking out and captaining the side, I'm just hopefully looking forward to a continued run in the side."
