Darren Purse's current Cardiff deal runs to the end of this season
Darren Purse is enjoying his new lease of life with Cardiff City and wants to extend his stay at the Championship club beyond the end of this season.
The defender had to play second-fiddle last season to the central pairing of Roger Johnson and Glenn Loovens.
But Loovens' 3m sale to Celtic in August has seen Purse re-establish himself in a Bluebirds side that has yet to lose this season.
"I'm looking to extend my Cardiff City career," Purse told BBC Sport Wales.
"I want to stay at the football club but that's not down to me, that's down to the board and the manager whether they want to give me another contract.
"All I can do is just go out and play football, but if I carry on the way I've been playing in the last four games then hopefully I'll do alright for myself.
"I worked hard in pre-season to get back in the team, I've come back fitter and... I've proved that in the games I've played this year.
"I've looked fit, I've looked strong and hopefully there's more to come."
Cardiff signed Purse from West Bromwich Albion in July 2005 in a deal worth 750,000.
The likes of Premier League side Wigan were interested in the former Birmingham City defender last year, but Purse ended speculation by signing a new one-year extension that tied him to Cardiff until July 2009.
