Robbie Fowler is to be offered a new one-year deal to stay at Cardiff City.
Fowler, 33, arrived on a free transfer last summer but played just 16 times and was out since mid-December due to a hip injury that required surgery.
The striker's 12 month contract had an option for a further year and now a pay-as-you-play deal is on offer.
Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale said: "It's merely an opening salvo. But reports it's a done deal is far from the mark."
