Steven MacLean opened his Cardiff City goal account as the Bluebirds continued their pre-season with a 1-0 win over Vitoria de Setubal in Portugal. Fellow new recruit Gavin Rae, who was outstanding in midfield, found MacLean unmarked in the box and the striker slotted under the advancing goalkeeper.
Rae, who combined well with Stephen McPhail in the middle, also drew a good save from the Setubal keeper.
A third new signing, Trevor Sinclair, also looked bright at Estadio do Jamor.
Cardiff will now return from Portugal and continue their pre-season programme at Yeovil next Saturday.
