Ridsdale has told fans not to be concerned by the lack of signings |
Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale says an unforeseen rise in the cost of their new stadium project has decreased this summer's transfer budget. Ridsdale told BBC Wales Sport that 5m earmarked to pay for new players has now been spent on the 43m development.
He said: "The club's long-term future is only secure with a new stadium, so it's the right way to spend the money."
But Ridsdale insisted there is still money available for boss Dave Jones to strengthen the squad for next season.
The Bluebirds's only close season signing so far is Tony Capaldi, who joined on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle.
Hull striker Jon Parkin was a known target before he joined Stoke, while Jones is also looking to buy a new goalkeeper.

Ridsdale said: "The message to the fans is that we don't kick off until 11 August and I would anticipate we will have between five or six faces into this football club from last season.
"That includes Tony Capaldi, so I would expect four or five new names joining us in the nest few weeks."
Ridsdale also revealed he has turned down offers for a number of Cardiff players, but stressed he would be willing to sell any of the club's top performers for the correct price.
Striker Michael Chopra caught the eye of many Premiership scouts last season, while young midfielder Joe Ledley is also attracting interest.
"Twelve months ago, I would have taken all of those bids," said Ridsdale.
"The fact is now we're saying to clubs there is a price for every player - it's a fact of life in the Championship - but that price has to be fair and reasonable.
"It has to be a price I think we could reinvest in the squad and make it stronger.
"So far, nobody has gone over that barrier for any of our players and therefore they are staying with us."
