Koumas has said he wants a permanent move to Cardiff |
Cardiff boss Dave Jones fears a change of manager at West Brom will scupper his hopes of signing Jason Koumas. Wales midfielder Koumas, on loan at Cardiff, knows he has no future under current Baggies boss Bryan Robson.
But with West Brom facing relegation from the Premiership this season, Jones says Koumas' situation would become confused if Robson is sacked.
"If the management set-up changes, that might give us less of chance of getting him," Jones told BBC Wales Sport.
Koumas will return to West Brom when his season-long loan deal ends with Cardiff after Sunday's final Championship game at Coventry.
But Robson has said the 26-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, can leave the club during the summer "for the right" price.
Cardiff are currently working on an offer to take to West Brom, and Jones hopes the deal can be concluded as soon as possible.
"I'm not involved in the negotiations but if we can do it then everything will be done to try to achieve it," said Jones.
"Hopefully we will be here next season, but you don't always get what you want.
"It's always a waiting game and it's never done in the time frame that you would like it done. We'll just keep chipping away.
"Jason has made all the right noises - he wants to stay.
"But it's not just whether we can get him at the price we feel right - you've got all the other problems that go with signing a player."
