Cardiff City manager Dave Jones says Riccardo Scimeca's versatility will be a massive asset for his squad. Scimeca, 30, has signed on a free transfer from West Brom after initially joining on loan to make him eligible to play against Burnley on Saturday.
"He showed his worth on Saturday when he came on in midfield but within a couple of minutes he slotted in at the back," Jones told BBC Wales Sport.
"He can also play full-back, but I've signed him to play in midfield."
Scimeca was the Baggies' first signing following their promotion to the Premiership and he played a major part in them pulling off their escape from relegation.
But the former Leicester and Aston Villa player has been restricted to only three first-team appearances during the current campaign.
In total Scimeca made 33 starts and seven substitute appearances for the midlands club during his 20-month spell.
He said he had no hesitation in joining the Bluebirds after Jones outlined the club's ambition.
"I can see a good future ahead. It might be a small squad but there is quality here," Scimeca told BBC Wales Sport.
"Hopefully we can improve and get up the table. It is a drop from the Premiership but at this moment in time, it's the right move for me."
Scimeca will link up with former Hawthorns team-mates Darren Purse and Jason Koumas at Ninian Park.
Koumas is currently on loan to the Bluebirds but a permanent deal could go through if they meet Albion's asking price for his services.
