Jez George says he has no intention of remaining as Cambridge United manager beyond the end of the season.
George has been handed control of first-team affairs until the summer following the departure of Martin Ling.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "My ambition is to help the club in the short term and put some smiles on peoples' faces.
"If we can get through to the end of the season and then get the right man, I'll have done a good job."
George, who is responsible for the club's youth programme, has never managed at Blue Square Bet Premier level before.

He is aiming to bring stability to the U's dressing room following a run of five straight defeats.
"It's just a matter of working hard, leaving no stone unturned and doing things right," he said.
"We've got to stick together as a group and get ourselves out of this difficult situation."
