U's defender Brian Saah eyes early return from injury

Cambridge United defender Brian Saah says he is hopeful of returning from a double hernia injury ahead of schedule.

The 23-year-old has not played for the U's since the 3-2 win against Gateshead in October, and was expected to be out for six weeks recovering from surgery.

Saah told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's gone quite well, and if anything, I'm ahead of schedule.

"This weekend might be too soon but we'll see how I react to training and take it from there."

Cambridge lie 13th in the Blue Square Bet Premier, and Saah says he wants to help the team to climb the table over the Christmas period.

We're in a situation where a couple of wins puts us in a very good position.

"The team has been performing well, and we've been unfortunate to draw games we could've won," he said.

"We don't need to do anything drastically different. We're approaching the halfway point of the season and we're in a situation where a couple of wins puts us in a very good position.

"In January, we'll see where we are and take it from there."
