Cambridge United manager Martin Ling was pleased his side avoided an upset after beating Lincoln United 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
Jamie Forrester gave Lincoln the lead in the third minute but Rory Macauley, Robbie Willmott and Wayne Hatswell secured the win for Cambridge.
Ling told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "When we are going to the lesser places, that's when we've fallen down.
"Today was another banana skin and we came through it with flying colours."
The U's will now host Ilkeston in the first round proper on the weekend of 7/8 November.
Lincoln United manager Seamus Lawless told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "Obviously you don't like getting beat, but I think the lads have been a credit to themselves and the club and done us proud.
"I thought for the first half hour we matched them and probably had the better of the chances. If we'd got to half-time at 1-0, you never know, do you?"
