Midfielder Challinor has also covered at right-back this season
Midfielder Jon Challinor has been told to provide more support for Cambridge United's strikers by boss Gary Brabin.
Challinor scored the last-gasp winner in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Lewes, but admitted the U's midfielders have not been scoring enough this season.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It will put the added responsibility on me to start shooting and take some pressure off the forwards.
"If the midfield can get some goals as well, then that will help the team."
Cambridge are fifth in the Blue Square Premier on 25 points, but have scored just four goals in their last six matches.
Challinor said: "You've got to have goals in the team, regardless of where they are.
"When the forwards aren't doing it then you've got to look to take it on yourself.
"We have got players in the team who can score goals, but for whatever reason it has dried up."
The 27-year-old wants to see his team-mates try their luck on goal more frequently.
"We should not be afraid to shoot from anywhere.
"The saying is 'if you don't shoot, you don't score', so that is what I am going to be looking to do in the next couple of games."
We know what we need to do, we need to make our place a fortress
Cambridge midfielder Jon Challinor
Despite the recent lack of goals, Challinor insisted the U's are well set to challenge at the top of the table ahead of their match against Weymouth at the Abbey Stadium this Saturday.
"We know what we need to do, we need to make our place a fortress and hopefully we can get on a run to keep us in the pack."
