One win for play-offs - McEvilly

Cambridge United

Cambridge United striker Lee McEvilly thinks one win from the last three games will clinch a place in the Blue Square Premier play-offs for the U's.

United are one point above sixth-placed Exeter with three games left.

The 26-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I think three points will do and we'll be in there.

"Burton play Stevenage on Friday and Exeter play Burton on the last day of the season so everyone will take points [from each other] there."

Cambridge take on Salisbury on Saturday before welcoming Torquay to the Abbey Stadium on Tuesday for their final league home game of the season.

McEvilly has not played since picking up an ankle injury against Woking in March, but could return to the bench on Tuesday.

I don't expect to start on Tuesday but maybe I can get on for the last 20 minutes

Cambridge striker Lee McEvilly

"[Playing on Tuesday] is a possibility but I don't want to pressure the gaffer. If someone said to me 'do you want to play', I won't hesitate to say yes.

"It's 50-50, I don't expect to start but maybe I can get on for the last 20 minutes to get me into the swing of things."

Cambridge's play-off bid suffered a setback on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by already-relegated Stafford Rangers.

McEvilly admitted: "We've had a dip against lower teams but have good recent form against teams you might expect to win.

"We're still in there and that's all behind us now. Whatever's in front of us now is up to us."
