Gautrey has spent a month at the club assessing the business and putting together a long-term business plan which the board accepted this week.

Chairman Lee Power told Cambridge's website: "We think this appointment is the next step in our progress in moving our off the field activities forward."

Gautrey was previously a director of two local construction companies and has been a U's supporter since 1971.
