Bury boss Alan Knill has said he is thriving on the competitiveness of the promotion race in League Two.
With one fifth of the season left, just five points separate the teams in second and eighth place, with the Shakers sitting in fourth place.
Knill told BBC Radio Manchester: "It is exciting. It is so much better to have something to play for.
"There are nine games left now and there is plenty to play for. I would much prefer it that way."
He added: "I think we have now lost two in 13 games so we are in decent form and there are plenty of teams in the league that would want that."
Bury are currently two points behind second-placed Wycombe and host struggling Chester next weekend.
