Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido believes defender Aaron Webster may decide to stay and fight for a contract with the Brewers this summer.
Webster has not yet been offered a new deal with the Brewers boss asking to see more from the 29-year-old.
Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby: "I'm getting some good feedback from the papers and on the web that he wants to stay at Burton and prove me wrong.
"That's the kind of attitude that I wanted from him."
He added: "He's certainly got fantastic quality but his fitness levels aren't as good as they should be and I want to see some fight.
"I know he's very laid back and I don't mind that but I just want to see a little more desire."
