Burton Albion defender Ryan Austin has agreed to a new short-term deal with the Brewers.
The 25-year-old has not played since picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury in November.
Manager Paul Peschisolido told the club website: "We aren't going to rush him at all.
"He needs to work towards his match fitness. If he can get back to the level he was at before his injury, it will be like having a new signing."
Peschisolido said: "If that's the case then we will definitely be looking at a proper contract for him."
Burton are awaiting a response from Brentford winger Cleveland Taylor after offering him a deal.
Peschisolido has said he is aiming for about five or six new signings for next season.
He said: "I'm very happy with the core of the team that we had last season.
"There certainly won't be the changes to the extent we saw at the beginning of last season."
