Crewe Alexandra assistant manager Neil Baker has been interviewed for the vacant manager's job at newly-promoted Burton Albion, reports BBC Radio Stoke.

Last week caretaker boss Roy McFarland decided not to continue in the post, having taken over from Nigel Clough.

Baker was interviewed by chairman Ben Robinson on Friday after being recommended by Clough.

The former Leek Town manager has been with relegated Crewe as part of their coaching staff for almost 15 years.

Baker took Leek to Wembley for the final of the FA Trophy in 1990 and achieved great success at non-league level with the Staffordshire club.

He was a candidate for the manager's job at Port Vale in 2007 but Lee Sinnott was eventually appointed.

Baker has yet to hold a management post in the Football League, although he did take on the role of caretaker manager at Crewe in 2003, when Dario Gradi was recovering from heart surgery.
