Nigel Clough has taken the Brewers to fourth in Blue Square Premier (PA) |
Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough hailed defender Ryan Austin after the 2-1 home victory against Rushden & Diamonds. Darren Stride and Mark Greaves were ruled out through injury so Austin made his second league start this season.
Clough said: "It's huge credit to him. To have played very little and to come in and perform like that was superb.
"It's his attitude in training and the reserves that means you can do that. If you mess about and don't take fitness seriously you can't play like that."
The Brewers saw off Diamonds thanks to goals from Daryl Clare and Marc Goodfellow.
And it was a victory that Clough thought they thoroughly deserved after losing to Ebbsfleet on Saturday, despite an excellent display.
"If over the last two games we hadn't won one of them it would have been a terrible injustice," he said. "Given the performances you could argue we deserved six points, not just three."
