McCann last played a competitive match in January

Burnley midfielder Chris McCann will be out for a minimum of six months following major knee surgery.

McCann managed just seven Premier League games last season due to two lengthy lay-offs through knee injuries.

Boss Brian Laws told the club website: "Chris has had niggles consistently over a period of time and it got to a point where we needed a second opinion.

"[That opinion is that] he needs a full reconstruction of the cruciate ligament. It's devastating news."
