Kilby willing to resell Turf Moor

Barry Kilby
Kilby joined the board of directors at Burnley almost 10 years ago

Burnley chairman Barry Kilby has revealed that he is determined to sell the ground back to the Championship club soon.

The 59-year-old bought Turf Moor and the training facility at Gawthorpe in 2004 under a company called Longside, who lease it back to the club.

"It's a responsibility I'd sooner not have," Kilby told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"As soon as the club gets some surplus cash it can buy it back and I'll be delighted when it does."

The 3m deal, which was bound by a 99-year lease, helped wipe out the club's outstanding debts.

And Kilby says the return of ownership is not restricted to Burnley winning promotion from the Championship.

"We don't have to go into the Premier League.

"If we'd spent the money from the Kyle Lafferty transfer in January they could have bought it back there and then. But the decision was to reinvest in the team.

"There's a figure of about 3.2m at the moment which would buy it back, so it's not a massive amount of money."
