Ex-Burnley defender has to retire
Danny Karbassiyoon
Karbassiyoon's only league starts came in his spell at Ipswich
Former Burnley, Arsenal and Ipswich defender Danny Karbassiyoon has been forced to retire from football at the age of 22 because of a knee injury.

The American left Turf Moor last summer after having the remainder of his contract cancelled, and may now resume his studies in Virginia.

He made three Carling Cup appearances for the Gunners and had a six-game loan spell at Ipswich in the 2004/05 season.

However, he made just six substitute appearances during his year at Burnley.

"While he may have to give up football at an early age, he mustn't damage his knee for the rest of his life," Clarets boss Steve Cotterill told his club's website.

"As disappointing and upsetting as it is for him, he may have a family in a few years' time and has the rest of his life to contend with."
