Spicer, 21, had a clause in his Dean Court contract allowing him to move to any club offering over �25,000.

"I think he will go on to be a good young player," Burnley boss Steve Cotterill told his club's website.

The Clarets have also signed Wolves defender Keith Lowe, 19, on a month's loan with an option to extend the deal.

Lowe, who can play at right-back and in central defence, has made 13 appearances for the Molineux club.

Spicer had joined Bournemouth from Arsenal for �10,000 last December after a successful three-month loan spell.

Bournemouth chairman Peter Phillips told his club's website: "The deal we struck with John's agent was only possible if we included an escape clause.

"He is an ambitious player who wanted to play in the Championship or higher.

"We were fortunate to sign a player of John's talents for �10,000, and we have more than recouped our outlay whilst of course securing John for the past year.

"Whilst we are sad to see him leave, we are sure John will be a great success and wish him all the best."

Cherries pair agree Burnley deals

He becomes the third midfielder to move from Dean Court to Turf Moor in a matter of months, after Wade Elliott and Garreth O'Connor moved on Bosman free transfers in the summer.

Cotterill, who played for the Cherries in the 1990s added: "It was an awkward one for me, as I still regard Bournemouth as one of my clubs.

"But the vibe we got from his representatives was that the boy was desperate to play for Burnley.

"We have gradually brought down the age of our squad in a short space of time, and John could go on to make good money for this club."
