Campbell expects promotion battle

Stuart Campbell believes Bristol Rovers are one of 12 clubs that are capable of winning promotion from League One.

But the Rovers captain, 31, has said the team's first priority is to improve on their final league position of 11th.

"We want to keep progressing," he told BBC Radio Bristol. "We finished last season strongly and want to carry on."

"The league is extremely strong this year. There's probably 12 teams who fancy their chances of reaching the top six, and we're one of them."

Rovers will look to start the campaign on a high note with victory at home to Leyton Orient, but history is against them.

Paul Trollope's side have not won on the opening day of the season since 2004-05, when they beat Mansfield 2-0.

"It's better to be at home with the fans behind us, we see it as an advantage," added Campbell.
