Bristol Rovers coach Paul Trollope has defended the decision to release out-of-contract quartet Craig Disley, Craig Hinton, Ryan Green, and Joe Jacobson.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Trollope said "All four players have given us fantastic service.

"We have to be trusted with what we are doing but we also feel we can improve (the squad) and this gives us a chance do that.

"To finish 11th was okay but we're looking to get a few faces in."

Midfielder Disley, 27, and defender Hinton, 31, arrived at the Memorial Stadium in June 2004 and racked up 242 and 187 appearances respectively.

Right-back Green, 28, signed for the club two years later and made 84 appearances, as did Jacobson, 22, who made his debut in February 2007.

Meanwhile, midfielders Charlie Clough and Charlie Reece have been offered one-year deals.

Defender James Tyrrell has been offered a six-month contract.
