Coppell wants his players to be committed to the cause

Bristol City manager Steve Coppell says he has received no firm enquiries for any of his players so far this summer.

The former Reading boss was reacting to speculation that defender Bradley Orr was being lined up by Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.

"You can't legislate for players who want to leave," said Coppell. "That doesn't just apply to Bradley, that applies to anybody.

"But nobody has bid anything and I don't anticipate many calls."

He added: "Everyone keeps telling me there's so much interest for [top scorer] Nicky Maynard but thankfully I have not received a phone call. Long may that continue."

Coppell, who was named as Gary Johnson's successor in April, says he is looking forward to beginning City's bid for promotion from the Championship when the players report back on 1 July.

"To be honest, I don't want anybody who doesn't want to be here, because there's no way they can give of their best," he said.

"When I speak to all the players, when they come in for training, I hope they're looking forward to the season. They're here because they want to be here.

"The only way this club is going to get promoted is with a squad of players who are committed to the cause.

"That's the only kind of player I'm interested in."
