Brighton have completed the signing of teenage Lewes defender Grant Hall until the end of the season.
The 17-year-old was offered a deal at the Withdean Stadium after impressing for the Seagulls' reserve team.
Hall came through Brighton's centre of excellence but missed out on a youth scholarship at 16 and was released.
Director of football Martin Hinshelwood told the club's website: "He has gone away to Lewes, worked hard at his game and we have seen a vast improvement."
He added: "We felt if we didn't get him back on board we would not be doing the right thing and we are looking forward to working with him again.
"He has got until the end of the season now and hopefully he can go on from there."
Lewes assistant manager Jason Hopkinson said: "I'm absolutely chuffed for Grant, he's done really well.
"He's not missed a training session and really improved. He's gained confidence and become a better player."
