Striker Jermaine Easter earned MK Dons victory against 10-man Brighton at the Withdean Stadium.
Brighton suffered a blow when defender Adam El-Abd was red-carded for a tackle on Richie Partridge in the 26th minute.
And Easter took advantage of defensive hesitancy after 49 minutes to smash the ball into the roof of the net after the Seagulls failed to clear a corner.
Easter also had a penalty claim waved away when he appeared to have been tugged by Tommy Elphick.
Brighton manager Russell Slade told BBC Sussex:
"I thought we started well. We were strong and on the front foot.
"The turning point was the sending off and spoke to the referee and to be fair to him he's going to have a look at it. We were dealt a harsh card today."
MK Dons assistant manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"We're pleased. It's important that we come to these places and pick up three points.
"We are just happy that we can come to these places and conduct ourselves the right way, and apply ourselves to the gameplan and stick to it."
