Rhodes injury blow hits Brentford

Jordan Rhodes challenges for the ball against Chesterfield
Rhodes' loan spell was due to end on 25 April

Brentford's on-loan Ipswich striker Jordan Rhodes is set to miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his foot in the defeat by Chesterfield.

The 19-year-old, who has scored seven goals this season, has broken his fifth metatarsal and has returned to Ipswich.

Ipswich physio Matt Byard told his club's website: "With that sort of injury you are looking at a recovery period of at least six weeks."

Sam Wood was also injured, as the Bees suffered only their second home defeat.

Brentford are still six points clear of second-placed Gillingham with eight-games left and manager Andy Scott remains confident they will win promotion to League One.

"If anyone had given us this position with eight games left and said you're six-points clear at the top we'd have taken it," Scott told BBC London 94.9.

"We'll take the defeat on the chin and we'll learn from it; we've responded from blips before."
