Brentford defender Craig Pead is expected to miss the start of the season after doctors confirmed he has suffered ankle ligament damage. Pead is facing an eight-week lay-off after being carried off 65 minutes into the Bees' 1-0 friendly defeat at Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday evening.
The 25-year-old joined Brentford on a free transfer from Walsall on 2 July.
Pead, who was named in the League Two PFA team of the year for 2006/07, can play at right-back or centre-midfield.
