Brentford have signed former Leyton Orient captain John Mackie but have released eight players including keeper Stuart Nelson and striker Lloyd Owusu. Mackie has agreed a two-year deal after being released by the O's.
The others leaving are Thomas Pinault, Neil Shipperley, Adam Griffiths, Joe Keith, Calum Willock and Nathan Abbey.
Top scorer Jo Kuffour and Alex Rhodes have been offered new deals while the Bees have taken up options on five other players including Charlie Ide.
Captain Kevin O'Connor, Andy Frampton, Matt Heywood, Sam Tillen, John Mousinho and Karle Carder-Andrews are the only other players under contract while talks are ongoing over Paul Brooker's future at Griffin Park.
Youngsters Ross Montague and Lewis Dark have been offered their first professional contracts.
