Michael O'Neill was formerly with Wigan |
Brechin City have unveiled former Northern Ireland midfielder Michael O'Neill as their new manager. The former Newcastle United, Hibernian, Dundee United and Wigan player was previously assistant to Mixu Paatelainen at Cowdenbeath.
Brechin sacked Ian Campbell with City sitting bottom of Division One.
St Johnstone assistant Jim Weir had appeared to be favourite for the job, but the Glebe Park board have turned to O'Neill.
Current players Gary Bollan and David Hannah had also been thought to be interested.
Brechin chairman David Birse said: "Although we have been quite successful over a number of years now, we feel that a change of direction is now required.
"Michael is the man we have entrusted to kickstart this new era and we are confident that the good times will eventually return to Glebe Park."
