Bradford are giving a one-week trial to former Cameroon international defender Gustave Bahoken, 29.
City boss Stuart McCall is likely to give the free agent a run-out against Scunthorpe reserves on Wednesday.
McCall told the Telegraph & Argus: "His agent came to us at the beginning of the season but we'd just got TJ Moncur in as well as Paul Arnison.
"He's without a club and paying his own way, so I'm happy to give him a go in the reserves and see how it goes."
Bahoken can play across the back four, or as a defensive midfielder, but the City manager is expected to use him as cover for Arnison at right-back.
He is chiefly known for having a 'Zaire World Cup 1974' moment
"I put Simon Ainge in there for one game and he did all right," said McCall.
"But he's not an orthodox right back and looks more comfortable in the middle."
Bahoken played for Rouen and Le Havre in France, before moving to Livingston in the Scottish Premier League in 2002.
He missed out on the Cameroon World Cup squad that year but went on to make his international debut against USA in the Confederations Cup.
He returned to France for a year before a second spell with Livingston.
